Kate here. I’m ima to four munchkins. I love to cook, but I hate meal planning. When it was just me and Charming, figuring out dinner on a daily basis was easy. Adding four growing kids and subtracting all my free time and expendable coin meant I had to come up with a plan. To create a menu, I scour cookbooks, blogs, sites, papers, etc. I come up with some good stuff, but I never remember what I’ve done, what we’ve liked, what to avoid…
I’ve started this blog to help my middle-aged mind remember what I did yesterday.
I’m coming at this from a kosher and vegetarian perspective, with a mind toward the tribe’s holiday cycle. I make a Friday to Friday weekly meal plan, that I create on Wednesdays. I do a weekly shop on Wednesdays as well. I do most of my shopping at Costco, Trader Joes, and a local Food Co-Op. I pick up occasional items at Target. I try to buy local and in-season whenever possible. I stock up on non-perishables whenever there’s a sale.
I’ve linked recipes I use. I tend to use recipes as a jumping off point and modify based on what we have or what sounds good. We always go out for burritos on Thursdays and have veggie burgers and homemade fries on Monday. Gotta make things easy every once in a while.
So, here it is, a weekly meal plan for me and anyone else who might find it useful!
Shanah tovah! It’s 5781, and I’m hoping the coming year will bring health and peace.
